Mediator Paul Miner is an independent mediator specializing in the resolution of employment disputes throughout California. Prior to transitioning to a full-time mediation practice, Mr. Miner was a partner at a successful employment litigation firm where he became well-versed in the status and trends of employment law.
He spent more than 15 years representing both employers and employees in virtually every type of dispute with an emphasis on matters involving leaves of absence, accommodation issues, misclassification of exempt employees, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination. He was able to experience firsthand just how costly and often wasteful litigation can be for both sides.
Eventually, Mr. Miner felt inspired to switch from a litigation practice of crushing adversaries to one of purposeful dispute resolution. He enrolled in mediation training at the internationally recognized Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law and launched a rewarding career as a full-time mediator in September 2022. Since then, he has enjoyed a high success rate in effectively resolving disputes by bringing deep subject matter expertise along with the same level of intensive preparation, creativity, and persistence he was known for as a litigator.
Mr. Miner believes the most important quality or characteristic of an effective mediator is his or her ability to build trust – trust that the mediator will be fully prepared, trust that the mediator will express heartfelt empathy so all feel valued and heard, and trust that the mediator will never give up and push to find creative ways to break through the inevitable impasses so even the most difficult cases can settle.
